Services Performed
  • Performed a visual inspection. No signs of any coolant leaks. Coolant level in reservoir is normal. Road tested vehicle twice for approximately 10 miles each time and could not verify concern. Let the vehicle sit and run at idle in the shop and the engine temperature began to rise above normal operating temperature. The fans did not come on as the temperature continued to rise. 2 fault codes are stored in the engine control module, P0480 Fan 1 Control Circuit and P0217 Engine Coolant Over Temperature Condition. Let the vehicle sit to cool down. The next morning we road tested the vehicle again and it did not overheat. Once again we let the vehicle sit and run at idle in the shop and this time the fans came on and operated normally. The engine temperature stayed at the normal operating range. Cleared the fault codes in the engine control module. Road tested again. Engine temperature was normal throughout the test drive. Checked for fault codes in the engine control module. Fault code P0480 re appeared. Checked cooling fan again and it is cycling on and off normally and the engine is operating at normal temperature. We suspect the cooling fan is the root cause of the issue but the condition is very intermittent making it more difficult to diagnose. We advised the customer that the thermostat could also be causing this issue. Updated customer on our findings and provided him with estimates for cooling fan replacement and thermostat replacement. Customer opted to take vehicle as is for now and continue to monitor condition. Verified coolant level is correct. No repairs performed at this time.
  • Cleaned corrosion from battery terminal as best we could. Negative battery terminal had a lot of corrosion. Tested battery, 12.36 volts, 513 CCA, Good and Recharge. Charged battery. Tested battery again after charging, 12.74 volts, 530 CCA.
